File preparation checklist
A quick (pragmatic) checklist to run through before sending a file to the RIP / the shop.
Reset
Before export
Real size: the file is 1:1 scale (or clearly indicated).
Colors: one color = one separation (spot color).
Black: check if it's true black (100K / rich black depending on your process).
Fonts: outline or provide fonts (no substitution).
Strokes: minimum thickness compatible with mesh / ink.
Transparency: avoid “surprises” (flatten if needed).
Overprint / Knockout: verify overprints.
Underbase (textile): add underbase if needed.
Halftones: angles / frequency validated (if you deliver halftones).
Export / delivery
PDF/X when possible, or a clean standard PDF, with no stray objects.
Naming: clear file + versions + colors (e.g. client_design_v3_2c).
Marks: crop / registration marks if useful.
Preview: add a reference image (PNG/JPG) for quick validation.
Notes: substrate, inks, mesh, underbase, number of passes, constraints.
Workshop bonus
Check at 100% zoom: small issues show up fast.
Do a quick paper test print (or digital proof) to validate proportions.
If unsure: send 2 versions (vector + raster) and specify the “source of truth”.
